How BoltGlyph works (60 seconds)

A nut sort puzzle. Move nuts from bolt to bolt until every bolt holds one colour, and every nut carries a glyph so you can play by shape as well as colour.

1) The rules

Tap a bolt to lift the nuts on top of it, then tap another bolt to thread them on. A nut can only go onto an empty bolt or onto a nut of the same colour, and a bolt holds four. Matching nuts on top travel together.

Same colour only Four per bolt Unlimited undo

2) Every level is solvable

All 300 levels were solved by a computer before they shipped, and each solution was replayed move by move under the game's own rules. If you get stuck, it is the board, not the level: undo a few moves or use your hint. The hint even tells you how far back to undo when a board has painted itself into a corner.

3) Winning moves

Keep at least one bolt empty for as long as you can: it is your workbench. Finish a colour before starting the next, and look for nuts buried under a single other colour; one move frees them. Beat par for three stars.

Sort the nuts

Finish with every bolt holding four nuts of one colour (or nothing at all).

Playing
  • Tap a bolt to lift its top nuts, then tap another bolt to thread them on.
  • Nuts go onto an empty bolt or onto the same colour. Four fit on a bolt.
  • Undo as often as you like. One hint per level shows a good next move.
  • Keyboard: 1โ€“9 pick bolts, U or Ctrl+Z undo, H hint, Esc puts nuts back.
Stars
  • Three stars for finishing in par or fewer moves; using the hint caps a level at two.
  • Your progress and stars are saved on this device.
